The students of Columbia Elementary came back from Winter Break with a nice surprise sitting on their playground.

Their first piece of playground equipment, called “Intensity,” was installed over break,  said Columbia Principal Shelley Detmer-Bogaert .

And as much as the students have been enjoying the new equipment, Detmer-Bogaert  said the surprises aren’t over. Thanks to efforts by the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization, there are future plans to add more equipment.

BCI Burke, a playground company, installed the equipment after Columbia won a grant of $3,000 to cover some of the costs.

Steve Waldmann, Kings Manager of School Business Affairs, was helpful in finding the company and working with them on plans and installation, said Detmer-Bogaert

“I have to say, it is awesome and the kids love it,” she said.

The school’s assistant principal, Lori Stovall, said, “We are very excited about our new playground piece!”
