Do you love Doritos? Six of Kelly Shield’s Digital Media Arts I students, Paul Rooney, Dan Walton, Matt Nelson, Alex Smith, Nick Collado, and Nick Squires entered the Crash the Super Bowl contest by showing how much power the Doritos bag actually holds. According to official Crash the Super Bowl website, the five finalists will win $25,000, a trip to Indianapolis for a private Super Bowl XLVI party hosted by DORITOS®. The Grand Prize Winners' Submissions will be aired during the Super Bowl XLVI broadcast. If the Grand Prize Winner’s commercial is awarded one of the top 3 spots (including ties) according to the USA TODAY Ad Meter rankings, that Grand Prize Winner will receive a bonus of $1,000,000 for the #1 spot, $600,000 for the #2 spot OR $400,000 for the #3 spot. In addition, the Grand Prize will be offered a consulting contract with a Hollywood professional and the opportunity to produce an additional commercial. “I assigned a sixty-second film as a project while teaching storyboarding, filmmaking, and editing,” said Shields. “I showed them the competition, but they were not assigned to enter it.” The commercial consists of a student playing a prank on his friend, telling students that there are free Doritos. A mob of students then chases the friend, after he was given the only Doritos bag available. “We came up with the concept by going through a long brainstorming process,” said Walton. While the makers are in the commercial, many other students were featured. Shields likes that many KHS students pitched in to help them. “We used as many people as we could, to create a typical high school scene,” said Walton. “If we win, part of the money will be given to Mrs. Shields, for letting us use the equipment,” said Collado. Even though the video did not place in the top five, Shields said that they should be proud of how their first DMA film turned out. “We’re disappointed, but expected to lose; we enjoyed the experience,” said Nelson. |
